House of the Blackheads

The Blackheads House is a building situated in the old town of Riga, Latvia. The first building for the Brotherhood of Blackheads, a guild for single traders, shipowners, and foreigners in Riga was erected during the first third of the 14th century. Big work was undertaken at the beginning of the 17th century, incorporating much of the Mannerist ornamentation. Sculptures were produced at the August Vol workshop

Rundāle Palace Museum

The Duke of Courland, Ernst Johann von Biron, bought land in Rundāle in 1735, on the site of a future summer residence, with an old medieval chateau. The old castle was burned down, and building began in 1736, following Bartolomeo Rastrelli ‘s plan. As part of the materials and equipment was transferred to the site at Jelgava Palace, work proceeded slowly.

The Freedom Monument

Freedom Monument is a memorial in Riga, Latvia, commemorating the soldiers killed during the Latvian War of Independence (1918–1920). This is seen as an significant sign of freedom , independence and sovereignty for Latvia. The 42-meter high granite, travertine and copper statue, unveiled in 1935, still serves as a focal point for public meetings and official ceremonies organized by Riga.
